Thumb Sucking

Rylie starting sucking her thumb at 3 months. She doesn't really take a pacifier for me (although she will sometimes for Dad). It's either the thumb or nursing. She sucks the thumb on the right hand, although she can be caught with both thumbs in her mouth at the same time :0).

Daddy Cam

I got the idea for the name of this post from the TLC show, "Baby Story". You know when they name the person that is doing the filming when the show can't make it to the baby delivery. Well Jerry is my stand in photographer when I am at work. This is one morning in March. Everyone is in our bed. The bassinet beside our bed just sits there collecting dust and Cailin will sleep in our bed or Ariel's. One thing is fairly consistent- she will not sleep in her own bed.

Cailin and the Broken Clavicle

Cailin was riding her Big Wheel down the driveway and hit the garbage can. It tossed her off her bike and on to the ground. She came in the house crying and laid down on the couch. She told me her neck hurt and since she had just awaken from a nap, I thought she had slept wrong. Poor thing, laid on the couch for 3 long days before I took her to the doctor. We found out she broke her clavicle. My heart broke. I couldn't believe she had broken her clavicle. I learned a big lesson this time- if your kids act differently; tune in and listen.
I tell you what: kids are resilient little folks. She never complained of pain unless we touched that arm. She never wore the sling past the first couple of days and since the pediatrician said it was for comfort only, we didn't make her.
Lately, this is the smile I get when I pull out the camera.

Our Days

This was in January, our first official month homeschooling. We were taking it easy and just trying to enjoy the days. We were always so consumed with school and homework routine, that it left very little of the day to take it easy. So we were trying to establish our routine and get back to just hanging out and having leisurely days. So, on this day, we were off to the park to play. These photos are in no particular order because they loaded any way they wanted.

We swing.

We walk down the beach.

I've been teaching Cailin how to kick her feet. We haven't totally gotten it down yet.

Rylie is totally content to ride in the sling. When she is fussy in the house, I put her in the sling and within minutes she is asleep. Unfortunately she often wakes when you put her down.

Because of Red Tide, there were a lot of dead fish washed up on the beach. I looked back to check on Cailin and she had a rather large dead fish that she picked up. I screamed which made her drop the fish. Ariel rinsed her hands in the water. Which looking at this photo doesn't seem like such a good idea, but I promise I used hand sanitizer on her when we got back to the car.

So our days now are filled with exploring and fun. We plan to hit the books again soon though.

The end.

Rylie, 2 months

I know I am really late blogging this but you were 2 months old here (Feb 4). How do I remember the date? Because I wrote it down. You weighed 10lb 5oz and 21 1/2 inches long. You gained 3 lbs in one month, so it's not a surprise that you are a really good eater. I was laying you down to sleep and you popped your head up like this. You had never set up so tall like this before. You smile when someone even looks at you. You save the biggest smile for your Momma. You talk and coo and it is so very cute. You hold on to my shirt or wrap your arm around mine when I'm walking. I think it's to make sure you don't fall. You hair acts as if it wants to curl but just hasn't fully committed to it yet. We love you sweet Rylie. It's as if you were always a part of the family.

1 Month Old

You weigh 7lb 5oz and you are 20 inches long. Your head circumference has increased by 1 full inch. You are a good nurser. You eat about every 2 hours. Your most awake hour seems to be in the middle of the night or early morning. Which is not very good for the Me right now. You love to be cuddled and will readily sleep in my arms or nuzzled against me and wake up the moment I place you in the bassinet. You cry with your bottom lip poked out and it just breaks my heart.
You don't mind taking a bath but scream your head off when I put lotion followed by clothes on you. When I talk to you, you stop crying or hold still and listen. When I hold you upright, you look around the room as if you're taking everything in. You grunt all the time. At first, I thought it was because your belly was upset, but it looks like it is also to voice your displeasure.
I love taking your picture (proof of how many photos are with this post). Now that you are here, it feels as if you have been here forever. I love you sweet baby girl of mine.

My Little Cailin

My little Cailin. You are 2.5 years old and such a big girl. You love to play and annoy Ariel. You insist on doing things on your own. When someone tries to help, you say "I do it."

You like to read and to paint. Your favorite books are "Brown Bear Brown Bear" and "Green Eggs and Ham." You love going to the park and the library. Your favorite cartoons are Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go, and your absolute favorite is Spongebob Squarepants. You are very social. You like to play with the little boys next door and all kids around your age. You have learned to play tag and will take turns counting (to 3) as well as hiding. You pick pretty good hiding places around the house. You have managed to trick Ariel.
You say the darndest things. In the car on the way to Chuck E Cheeses, you exlaimed, "I like Chuck E Cheeses! It's exciting!" Now where did such a little person learn the word "exciting"? Or how about the time I was fussing at you for getting into my lip gloss and you told me, "I was trying to be beautiful." That one made me laugh. Your Dad shares the times that you have been eating with him and you asked, "Can I have the last one?" Smart girl.

You adore your little sister. And so far no signs of jealousy. You like to hold her and kiss her. Here you were excited to be holding her for a picture.

And you did this all by yourself. You are a natural snuggle bunny. You ask, "Can I hold you or can I hug you?" Which means can you pick me up. You tell everyone that you love them and then share kisses. You are tinkled pink when you say, "I love you Momma"
And I say, "I love you, Cailin." And you follow it up with, "I love you Keshia." This always starts you to giggling.
You know your full name, but only say it with prompting. You know how old you are. You can count to ten and sing most of the ABC's. You are attempting your colors and can recognize whether something printed is a letter or number. You can go to the potty, but so far only if prompted.
I love you sweet Cailin.

I Lub Rylie

Cailin always says, "I lub (love) Rylie."

She thinks the world of her. She asks, a million times per day, can she hold her.

She smothers her with kisses.

And for some reason points at her too.

Silly Girl!

She came up with this face on her own.

And once she started doing it....

she just couldn't stop!

Happy Christmas

No matter how many times I say, "Merry Christmas"- Cailin always says, "Happy Christmas". After all, it is "Happy Birthday" and "Happy Halloween".

We got to see Santa during the Mother Goose Hour at the library. She went right up to greet Santa. I didn't get to hear her reply when he asked her what she wanted for Christmas.

And she gladly accepted the candy cane at the end.
